Hello and Happy Pride!
For Pride Month 2023, I’d like to share some of the fabulous books and authors I’ve discovered when I started reading novels featuring LGBTQ or LGBTQ-friendly characters or written by LGBTQ or LGBTQ-friendly authors back during my furlough during the 2020 lockdown.
Welcome to Day 3 of 30 Days of Pride. Today I'm sharing Jay Hogan's Auckland Med Series. Auckland Med is a series of five gay romance novels written by New Zealand author Jay Hogan. They're all set in and around a hospital in Auckland, New Zealand, so readers get to know doctors, nurses, medical examiners, and others. You also get to know a few Rugby players along the way as well; there's definitely a fair amount of sports - even wheelchair rugby, described in Book 4, Against the grain.
Jay Hogan writes beautifully-complex characters in all her books, but my absolute favorite character is featured in Book 2, Crossing the Touchline: Cameron Wano. Cameron Wano is the charge nurse in the Auckland Med ER who is great at his job, takes no attitude from anyone, always wears guyliner, and falls for the next up-and-coming Rugby star with the New Zealand All Blacks. He makes appearances in the other books, but we get to know him in Crossing the Touchline.
Here are the 5 books in the Auckland Med series.
Book 1 - First Impressions
Book 2 - Crossing the Touchline
Book 3 - Up Close and Personal
Book 4 - Against the Grain
Book 5 - You are Cordially Invited
This is my favorite Jay Hogan series. I've listened to 4 out of 5 books so far, and all of them were beautifully narrated by Gary Furlong. I've listened to other Jay Hogan's books, and Furlong does an outstanding job on all of them. Take a listen if you can. Many are available on Hoopla, so all you need is your library card to take a quick trip to New Zealand!
I hope you'll take some time to check out this fantastic series.
Take care, and happy reading!
- Heather
